Excellent Choice!
Every year my husband and I take a vacation to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Usually it is an international trip, but this year for our 3rd anniversary we decided to keep it in the states and mix it up with "our people." So we went to Las Vegas! Here's a brief synopsis of our shenanigans and our first time in Vegasbaby!
Sunday June 21, 2015 | ArrivalOn Sunday morning, we skipped church, packed our bags, dropped our daughter off with her Duke, and drove 30 minutes to Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International airport. I remember it being hot, but it was nothing compared to when we stepped off that plane in Vegas. Lawd! More details to come on that snippet.
We flew with Southwest, another first, and found it to be quite pleasant. We chose our own seats, window and middle, close to the front. Because it was Father's Day, my husband was served a complimentary Rum and Coke. After the 3.5 hour flight, we had arrived to Vegas and it was HOT! It was 110 degrees, but felt close to hell. We picked up our bags, caught a cab, and carried on to the Paris hotel. This hotel was lovely. It had a nice French flair to it and the Eiffel Tower out front was captivating. We had to walk through the casino to get to reservations. The line to check in was extra long but it moved quickly. Initially I had reserved a standard room (2 queen beds) but the receptionist offered us an upgraded P-Room for an additional $25/night. I didn't want to take it, but DH insisted that I have whatever I want, so we agreed. We took the elevator up to the 18th floor and found our corner P-Room. It looked antique, but it was very spacious. The only problem we had was the internet connection. We couldn't log in and had to use our cell data for a while before it could be fixed. |
After getting settled into the room, we took a walk along the strip, heading towards Caesar's Palace. When standing still, everything looked so close together, but the walk was a hike. It still wasn't a bad walk though. Along the way, some Hispanic men and women were passing out business card sized promos for "Hot Girls." Gross, but DH thought it was sooo funny and put one of them in his pocket for souvenirs!
Right before we reached Caesar's, we were stopped by a girl who invited us to play a spin-the-wheel game. I wanted to keep walking because I just knew they were trying to sell us something, but DH is so curious, he just had to see what was up. After his spin, we were taken into a tent to retrieve our prize. At the same time, another girl was offering us free shows and dinners that came with a catch- we had to attend a timeshare presentation the next day (4 hours) off the strip and a few miles down the highway. Ugh! I knew it. In return, we would receive 2 tickets to a show of our choosing and a 2 free dinner buffets. We reluctantly agreed, signed our names, and set an appointment to meet them the next day at 2:15 PM.
Back to our original plan, we had reached Caesar's. It was huge (even bigger than it looked, coming up later in the story). The first thing we needed to do was find something, anything to eat. There was a 24 hour restaurant in the entrance of the hotel, but we thought we'd look around first. Well, we returned to that 24-hour restaurant and ate there. Delicious but only a little filling.
It was getting late and we were both exhausted from traveling, so we decided to head back to the Paris. There, we played around a bit in the casino and tried to set a budget for gambling each day. Ha! That didn't work. We played in the casino for about 2 hours. DH didn't know they served free drinks while playing. He and I both got a little tipsy and a little broke before heading back up to the room. We called it a night and got rested up for the next day.

Monday June 22, 2015For this trip, I was determined not to gain back all the weight I had lost for it, so I brought my gym clothes and shoes along. I had to ask, search, and ask again until I finally found the fitness center. It had really nice equipment and I got a good workout.
While I showered after the gym, DH went downstairs to play in the casino again. I joined him and found him playing on a Blackjack table. He literally taught himself the rules and basically how to play while he was there. I went on to play some of the machines I had read about prior to the trip. I didn't win much at all, but I also didn't bet too much, so it was fair. We hadn't had breakfast, so we went to Hex restaurant at Paris. We had free drink coupons we wanted to use. It was close to 1 PM and we knew we had to go to the timeshare presentation at 2:15 PM where they had promised us lunch, so we ate appetizers until it was time to go. |
